Ms. Barghouty holds a Masters Degree with distinction in Biochemistry from the American University of Beirut and a degree in Management Development from Bradford University in the United Kingdom. Since her graduation in 1979, Ms. Barghouty has worked with the United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) in the area of pre-service and in-service training for the education staff as she has taken up a variety of posts until she became the first Arab lady ever to take up the post of the Chief of the Training Division at UNRWA regional office in Amman and operating in Jordan, West Bank, Gaza, Syria and Lebanon.

Ms. Barghouty has joined the Jordan Forum of Business and Professional Women (JFBPW) in 1985 and was elected as President of the Forum in 2006. She was also named as the Arab States Coordinator in the International Federation of Business and Professional Women/BPW-International.

Ms. Barghouty is also Deputy to the Board Director of a financial brokerage firm which was established in Amman/Jordan in 2005.

In 2012, Ms. Barghouty was appointed by a decree from the Prime Minister as member of the National Council for Competitiveness and Innovation.

In 2014, Ms. Barghouty was named as member of the Technical and Consultative Committee in the Arab Women Organization.

Ms Barghouty is an active figure at the national, regional and international levels as a speaker and /or moderator or chair of many conferences dealing with economic empowerment of women.
